Silicon Desert Golf Tournament Swings for ALS Arizona

At ALS Arizona, partnerships fuel our mission to provide support, advocacy, and hope to those living with ALS. One of our most steadfast and generous allies is Silicon Desert Golf, a vibrant community of golf enthusiasts who come together each year to host the Silicon Desert Invitational benefiting ALS golf tournament in support of our cause.

A Tradition of Impact

Silicon Desert Golf has a rich history, tracing its roots back to at least the mid-1970s when it was known as the Rogers Golf League. Founded by employees of Rogers Corporation’s Chandler AZ Tooling & Equipment Department, the League has undergone several transformations, reflecting the changes in the local manufacturing industry. From Rogers to ADFlex Solutions and Innovex, the League’s identity evolved, but its spirit and camaraderie endured. Over the years, it has been contested at numerous Arizona courses, including Dobson Ranch, San Marcos, Ocotillo, and now Iron Oaks in Sun Lakes.

The annual Rogers Open, which dates back to the late 1970s, transitioned into today’s Silicon Desert Invitational benefiting ALS. When COVID prompted Rogers Corporation to withdraw its sponsorship in 2020, the resilient League members formed Silicon Desert Golf, establishing both the Silicon Desert Golf League and the charity Invitational. Since then, the Invitational has raised now $92,500 for ALS Arizona and Tossin’ Away ALS, thanks to the generous support of participants and sponsors.

Silicon Desert Golf began its tradition of giving back years ago, motivated by the belief that sports can bring people together for a greater purpose. Now in its fifth year, the Silicon Desert Invitational continues its mission to support ALS. This past year’s tournament took place on Saturday December 7th, on the Palms and Lakes nines of Iron Oak’s championship Oakwood course. Held every December, the tournament has grown into a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts, demonstrating the power of a committed community. This past December, the event raised an incredible $30,000; $16,000 of which was donated to ALS Arizona, which directly supports free programs and services for ALS patients and their families. These services include our Durable Medical Equipment loan closet, transportation to clinic appointments, support groups, education, advocacy, and funding for critical research.

More Than a Game

While the tournament is a golfer’s dream, featuring beautiful fairways, friendly competition, and camaraderie, it’s also a deeply meaningful day. Players and sponsors alike are reminded of the lives they’re touching through their participation. Whether it’s helping a family with ALS navigate the challenges of daily life or funding critical research, the tournament’s impact resonates far beyond the 18th hole.

Thank You, Silicon Desert Golf

ALS Arizona extends our deepest gratitude to Silicon Desert Golf for their unwavering commitment to our mission. Your support not only helps fund vital programs but also inspires hope within the ALS community. Together, we are making a lasting impact for ALS patients and their families.
