Research We Fund
Your generous support enables us to fund millions of dollars in research every year, in locations across the globe. We fund projects across the research pipeline, from basic research through clinical trials, and our support has led to several potential treatments currently in clinical trials.
What we fund, support & promote
ALS Arizona funds and promotes efforts that expand access to research, speed discovery, and connect Arizona families to meaningful study opportunities.
Named Studies & Initiatives
ALL-ALS Consortium (ASSESS & PREVENT) — A nationwide, NIH-funded observational program designed to make ALS research more inclusive and accessible. ASSESS enrolls people living with ALS (and healthy comparators); PREVENT follows people at genetic risk. Many activities can be completed in person or remotely.
NEALS Clinical Trials Access — We direct families to the Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) trial finder—the most current resource for federally and privately funded ALS studies—so Arizonans can locate and join trials faster.
Target ALS Collaboration (Day of Research) — We partner with Target ALS to bring research closer to families—e.g., a pop-up research clinic and community event that connected people in Arizona with cutting-edge studies.
Webinars & Community Education (ALL-ALS) — Short webinars provide program overviews, study updates, and practical “how to participate” details—another way we lower barriers and invite more people into research.
Research We Fund & Support
Biomarkers & Natural History — Build shared datasets and measures (blood/CSF, imaging, digital signals) to detect ALS earlier, track progression, and power smarter trials.
Clinical Studies & Trial Enablement — Observational studies and interventional trials (plus tools that improve access/efficiency) to move potential treatments to people faster.
Genetics & Precision Medicine — Use gene insights and molecular profiling to match the right person to the right therapy and monitor response.
Disease Models — Patient-derived cells and validated animal models to study motor neuron degeneration and screen therapies before human testing.
Assistive Technology & Quality-of-Life Innovation — Advance communication, mobility, and at-home care solutions that improve daily life while long-term cures are pursued.
Environmental & Cognitive Studies — Investigate environmental influences alongside changes in thinking/behavior (ALS-FTD spectrum) to inform risk, care, and trial design.
You Are Part of the Solution
Your participation and support will help ALS Arizona fund research to find treatments and drive for a cure to END ALS.
