How ALS Arizona Supports Families Year-Round

ALS does not follow a schedule—and neither does support. For individuals and families living with ALS, needs can change week to week, day to day. That’s why ongoing, year-round support is so important. At ALS Arizona, our work is centered on walking alongside families through every stage of the ALS journey, providing care, connection, and stability when it’s needed most.

Support often begins with simply being there. Through home visits, our care team meets families where they are—literally and emotionally. These visits create space for questions, problem-solving, and reassurance, helping families feel supported in their own homes rather than overwhelmed by the unknown.

As physical needs change, access to the right equipment can make daily life safer and more manageable. Our durable medical equipment (DME) loan closet allows families to borrow items like walkers, wheelchairs, and shower chairs at no cost, reducing financial strain and stress during an already difficult time.

Transportation is another critical piece of care. For many families, getting to medical appointments, clinics, or essential services can be challenging. Transportation assistance helps ensure that access to care doesn’t depend on distance or mobility.

Respiratory support is also a key part of living with ALS. Through access to a respiratory therapist, families receive education, guidance, and hands-on support as breathing needs evolve—helping individuals feel more comfortable and caregivers feel more confident.

Emotional support matters just as much as physical care. Counseling services and support groups provide safe, understanding spaces where people living with ALS and their caregivers can share experiences, process emotions, and connect with others who truly understand. These moments of connection remind families they are not alone.

Education is woven throughout every service we provide. From learning what it means to live with ALS, to understanding care options, clinics, and available resources, education empowers families to make informed decisions and feel more in control of their journey.

Respite support offers caregivers something invaluable: time to rest, recharge, and care for themselves. Even short breaks can make a meaningful difference, helping caregivers sustain their strength and well-being over time.

Together, these services form a network of support rooted in compassion, dignity, and community. Every ride, conversation, piece of equipment, and shared moment reflects our commitment to supporting families not just during milestones—but every single day.
