Empowering Caregivers: Skills Workshop Recap & Upcoming Session
At ALS Arizona, we understand that caregiving for a loved one with ALS comes with unique challenges. That’s why we host Caregiver Skills Workshops—interactive sessions designed to equip caregivers with practical knowledge, hands-on training, and valuable resources.
In February, we welcomed caregivers in the Phoenix area for a day of learning and support. Topics covered included:
- Disaster Preparedness – How to create an emergency plan tailored for ALS caregiving.
- Communication Options – Exploring both low-tech and high-tech solutions to maintain connection.
- Transfer Techniques – Hands-on training with Hoyer lifts, gait belts, pivot discs, and bathroom transfers to safely assist a loved one.
- ALS Education – Understanding the progression of ALS and how to adapt to changing needs.

Missed the session? We have a collection of helpful videos demonstrating transfer equipment and techniques available on our YouTube channel.
